I've used 32 thou stainless before (dirt bike grips). I'd worry about 20 thou cutting the rubber, but someone may know better. I'm going off the grades we used on aircraft in my air force days, you maybe able to get your hands on something more suitable.

0.8mm is what people generally use. It's what I had on mine.

It depends how old you are. Kids are using metric. I use both.

We still stuck in imperial we just don't realise it.

Sad fact but stuck in a queue for an ice scream yesterday I was teaching my boy some maths so looking round got number related visual aids. I noticed a box of flakes which although weighed in grams were in a box of 144 which my lads point out was 12 x 12 which I realised is imperial as its a dozen dozen rather than say 150 which would be a metric portion.

Weird what you do with kids.

I use both but I think our generation are the last. My kids don't have a clue when it comes to feet and inches, apart from person height. They also still measure their weight in stones.

I was the first generation of metric in NZ, but then worked on American and British aircraft in the airforce so immersed in imperial for a good 20 years.

SO in reality I'm shouldn't be casting stones (wasntme)

Ended up using both, was 10yrs old when we changed money, did my apprenticeship with a company that used Whit/BSF, UNC/F and Metric on historic, previous and current products respectively, all of which I had to work on. Consequently reasonably able in both, but still think in certain ways, always use thou's for tappets etc, but mm for micrometer/vernier readings. Oh and still drink in pints. (beer)

Fwiw I've used the 0.8mm as well with no issues on the soft light grey handgrips in the past just to jog the thread back on track.

Pardon my ignorance, but what's the purpose of lockwire on grips? I've seen it before but didn't get it.

Also if you've got race clip ons where the bar end is not larger than the bar, the wire keeps the grips in place preventing them from wandering down the bars and off the ends. My Renthal grips have specific areas moulded into them for the lock wire.

Erm haha had to laugh at Monty's comment.. Yes spent a little on it.. Basically the bike is in mint condition so took it for a part ex quote on a new one.. almost fell over when the said 3k against a full price one.. The stock bike is MINT (despite having 60k miles on it).. So though FK it will keep it now till it drops dead. So spent a little bit on it (far from cost of a new stock bike though)

Was black and gold with gold wheels.

If the bikes alive after two weeks time (Nurburgrin and Alps) then in the new year may finish it off with Ohlins and Brembos but that's a big question mark (subject to wedding costs) :)

So yes changed few things since Monty last saw it.. And will have about 65k miles on it in about 3 weeks time
