Probably fite the best if you see dukes post in the Corona thread.

Today I should have cleaned the bike up for its service tomorrow, but didn't have time.

I'm off bright and early at 7am to get it booked in at 8. Got a loaner booked in for the day so be interesting to see which one of the fleet I get this time.

Dropped the bike of this morning bright and early. Lovely ride up to Oxford, being 7am there was very little traffic but it was still 24 degrees according to the display.

The service seems to have gone well as I've had the confirmation that nothing else is broken and needs replacing. They've also agreed to replace the front wheel bearings under warranty and also replace the wing mirrors, however I have to pay for fitting. Fair I thought.

The hack of the day, the BWM 1250RT.

TL;DR; I'm not a fan.

The first two things you notice about it are:
* It's heavy, very heavy, and unlike the XR it just doesn't feel balanced. I nearly dropped it outside the dealership just trying to move it about.
* It's powerful, you can't hide from the fact that a 1250cc engine is going to have some grunt and it does bugger of pretty damn quick when you open it up.

But for me it just wasn't comfortable and the riding position feels very cramped. The riding feels far too relaxed, it doesn't want to be rushed into bends, this then leads to the feeling that there is not a lot of feedback from the suspension. The brakes also felt like a couple of wooden blocks. A good point was the electrically adjustable screen, very nice but too big. I know I'm a short arse but anything other than the lowest position removed all airflow and left me sweating.

Tomorrow should be a little more entertaining. I've provisionally been booked in for a test ride on the new XR 8) apparently from talking to the sales guy it's a very different bike to mine. He thinks it's faster and more aggressive, possible a bit more sports focussed than touring.

I used to do a route most weekends through Wales which was 300 miles. There were a couple of times I got home and realised I didn't want to stop riding so I did it all again. 600 miles in a day with only brief wee and bacon stops. I still did the same 300 miles the following day the one weekend.

Those were the days, solo riding, getting in the flow and having hours of me time

A lot of Police departments here use those. A good all-rounder by all accounts....being a bit cramped & wooden brakes are complaints I've heard mentioned, but when they're supplying it & paying you to ride it, I'm that softens the blow a bit.

My lad had another half day off school so took him on his second ever ride this arvo. Since he was feeling more confident this time we planned a hour loop but he didn’t want to finish up so extended it and did nearly 2 hours all up with a pint of cider (him soda) at the local to finish up.

He really enjoyed it and wasn’t nervous at all this time. 5 mins in and the death grip had relaxed and barely knew he was there most of the ride.

Glad he’s happy to jump on the back nowadays, was a big fear for him to overcome but now he’s really into it 8)

Ordered a fork cap removal tool for the Ohlins. I need to find out what springs are in there and check the condition of the oil while I'm at it

Took Mrs C to the local and very friendly Triumph dealer to test a Street Twin. We've been going out with her on pillion a little this year and the Street still handles well with someone on the back and I'm confident with a pillion now so she was glad to get off once we got to the dealer :D

Once a quick signature was completed, the dealer filled it with fuel and off we went. We had the Street Twin for about 2 hours and i rode it for about 20 minutes.

It's a giggle that's for sure and its proper retro. This one had the Vance & Hines loud cans on it and what a noise! Pops and burbles everywhere. Not sure if it would be too much on a long ride, but fun anyway. It's quicker than i thought when you wind it up, but you do need to do that and as a Sunday tool it would be perfect for razzing round all the countryside we have out here.

Mrs C has a lot to think about as she's always been a sportsbike girl and this is the complete opposite. I'm used to naked bikes now and torquey bikes too, but she's now got half the rev range that she's used to so she's sleeping on it whether to get one or keep looking. We might go and test a couple more different bikes to be sure. She's also going to go out on mine again this week now she has a benchmark.

What it did tick was the low seat height box. We tried to turn round at one point and ended up in a dead end, on a big slope on a rubble roadway. She dealt with it easily, which wouldnt have been the case on the CBR RR.

I took it out for 20 mins while she did a bit of local shopping and it's good fun to rag round corners - i'd even say it turns in just as well as the Street Triple, which is saying something. It's tops out just after 7.5k revs i think, but keep it spinning and it gets a shift on.

On a private road nearby i managed 180 kph, which is more than enough (hi) . It is softer than i'm used to, but as a tool for having fun its very well made.

I would suggest a Ducati Scrambler is worth a ride. Similar ideas but a more modern feeling engine and possibly a slightly lower seat height as well.

Also the Ducati Supersport is a low seat height and has a cracking engine. More sportsbike too.
