dishwashing liquid


I've got to stay out of this thread. I found myself researching cermanic coatings

You don't want your first go at detailing to be a ceramic.. im definitely still scared ot it! Haha

What is ceramic detailing??
It's not just using a clay-bar, is it??
The clay-bar sounded scary until I tried it, and then I just wondered why I'd waited so long. Big scaredy-cat.

Ceramic coating is a protection coating.

It uses a solvent carrier to be applied to the car then the solvent flashes leaving an even coat of ceramic solution which then forms a crust. High gloss. Extra protection from minor stone chips too.

Its very easy to get wrong and it will amplify any defects you didnt successfully remove during decontamination (clay bar + chemicals) and the paint correction (compound and polish).

You really have to nail it from start to finish and it can last 5 years

I know I would pay someone else to do it and I would probably only do it on a brand new car. Mine has stone chips and after a repair a ceramic coating will make them stand out more

I welcome the rain. For a start it's going to save me watering the grass seed twice a day but it also means I get to come out to the car and see some lovely water beads!

So long as the rain stops before Monday I don't mind!

New products arrived and I got to try 2 of them yesterday, both made by Envy Car Care.

Evolution is a citrus based wheel cleaner costing £13 for 1L of concentrate.
Diluted 1:10 this stuff is powerful but you can use it neat if necessary. My wheels were filthy because of the dusty pads installed so it had a tough job. I used about 50ml of diluted product per wheel so by my estimation that's 40 washes for £13. You can dilute further if necessary to 1:25 meaning you'll get 100 washes for £13 which is crazy value IMO. Not a spec of dirt was left on the alloys in the barrel nor on the face.

Iron Awe is a fallout remover that you can dilute 1:1 costing £18 for 1L.
It doesn't smell half as bad as others. A lot of people use this instead of a wheel cleaner for tough jobs but I used both because if the active ingredient is removing normal dirt, it's not available for removing what a wheel cleaner cannot. It removed every remaining contaminant in the barrel and on the face.

The wheel cleaner is incredible and so much better than Autoglym! As the wheels were generally free from contaminants I couldn't really see the fallout remover do it's things.

Does anyone want to clean my wife's car?

Washed it today. It's not been washed for months. It now looks like it's not been washed for a couple of weeks.

Kwacky, did you use Gtechniq C2 Liquid Crystal on your Versys? How did you like it?

People were pointing me towards Gtechniq Halo Ceramic Coating for putting on top of the PPF on my new MTB. When I checked, it wasn't really suitable for me as I'll waste most of the bottle due to shelf life. They did recommend C2 instead so I wanted to understand your take on it.

No. I'm still using it. The brutale has had a coating.

Let me know if you do try it. I'll be interested to see what you think of it. My cleaning and detailing knowledge is very limited

Yeah I'll let you know. I have a similar product currently so waiting to hear back from the manufacture to see what they say about using it on PPF

Autobrite Direct had an Easter sale so I've ordered a few things.

I've got a drying towel coming in. These things are ace for the motorbike. I recommend them to anyone.

I've also ordered a small size of purple velvet shampoo and some Hellshine glass and visor sealant with a small applicator.

Yes I ordered shampoo from them - I wish I ordered an extra drying towel now too and relegate my current towel to drying wheels. I've ordered 5L of Purple Velvet and 500ml of Citrus Ultimate Cleaner

Purple Velvet has additives so it isn't suitable for using prior to applying protection but will be great for "maintenance" washing.

The Citrus one is a pure shampoo, free from additives, and is what I'll use for cleaning before applying protection.

Not used Autobrite before so I'm keen to find out what they're about

My wife's cars just get a hose down and a wash so the velvet should be fine.
