That is what is happening.
When Boris decided that the foreigners have to have a job paying over £35k or huge savings to get into the UK, France is doing the same to Brits who want to move here. Problem for many brits is that savings do not count for anything here, so you have to have an income, salary or a pension. Many Brits, like me, come here to retire and do not have a huge pension.
My favourite saying when Brits moan about what brexit is doing is to tell them that it is what they, as a country, voted for.
Meanwhile I have my French residence permit on its way as I was living here before brexit, and don't need to prove any sort of income.

Imagine how much money is being lost by cutting out transport traffic to and from Wales to Calais. All that fuel revenue. Truck stops. Recovery firms. Accommodation. Then there's the ferry companies and EuroTunnel.

Maybe it's not a lot. But it won't be long before other companies realise that it's easier to avoid the UK.

The basic spin was simple: we leave the EU, we don't have to pay them any money, we don't have to obey EU laws, we instantly stop immigration and we lose none of the benefits.

Common sense always suggested that for the people in the Country to be better off after Brexit would take a level of investment never seen before.

As it is now Britain will struggle to cover its debts without substantial tax increases.....and the UK as a group of Nations might not even survive for long.

People believed the lies.

The leave campaign played the game. Catch phrases that stuck in the memory, then they paid off the media to keep bashing those phrases and the perceived benefits into people's minds constantly. Couple that with massive targeted online campaigns and key groups couldn't escape their message.

If you hear the same thing over and over for long enough you start to believe it. Social engineering at it's finest.
