That said, I did have a play with a Ducati 999 at Rockingham and just about had the legs on it

They are doing me a special deal on labour rates as the bike is pre-2000. 8 to 10 hours they reckon to remove and refit.

However it does make a mockery of it all. BMW are the same if your car is over 5 years old they service it at a much reduced rate. I understand why but equally it's not fair to price something lower based on age as the work done and mechanics working on it are the same. Ironically the older stuff is harder to work on as more likely seized fasteners or other issues etc.....

Not a dig as I'm glad you got a good deal and it's going to be great when it's finsihed just having a moan tbh I'll shut up and crawl back in my box

5 years sounds a bit soon to me but I guess they are trying to muscle in on servicing they don't usually do. I think JHPs thinking is to keep the more vintage bikes in good order at a price customers are prepared to pay.

I am really looking forward to seeing it finished ( which I know is a long way off) but there are still loads of race and aftermarket parts available for them. At some point it will need a decent steering damper and I'm also tempted to try adjustable triple clamps in the future.

Had a long telephone chat with JHP re slipper clutches today. They recommend STM. STM make three different types of slipper. The basic one will fit straight in using my clutch basket and plates. Next step is an SBK version which has 48 teeth clutch plates but would mean new basket and plates as mine are only 12 teeth. The top of the range is a full on race clutch that can be locked to allow the bike to be started when no starter motor is fitted. Need to go away and read up about options one and two. The base one is about £400.

Learned a lot in a 20 minute phone call.

400 is very cheap. I got the sigma one and great addition to a vtwin Duke

It doesn't include the clutch plates nor the basket but i can use my own on that clutch. Having done a bit of internet reading and unless JHP persuade me otherwise, i think that is the way to go.

In the phonecall i learned that you should never mix steel ringed plates with an alloy basket and vice versa. Apparently the 1098 on came with alloy both as standard.

400 is a good price the sigmain I have is around the 700 mark for similar kit.

To be honest the £400 should do you nicely on a bit of track and road on that bike. Otherwise it looks very expensive (but very nice indeed)

The standard one is what John Hackett recommended. He said if you go for a 48 tooth then it limits the ease of getting new clutch plates and as long as you can live with the dry clutch noise then there isn't much benefit from the 48 teeth The SBK Is a bit more than just a 48t clutch as it uses spider springs to vary the amount of slip as required but that's more than I really need.
