I have cobbled together the seat unit / number plate and today got an mot then i had a quick blast around woodhead / snake pass. I'm really pleased it feels really fast and involving to ride. It flicks from left to right with ease and was so much fun. The more aggressive i was going into the corners the better the bike handled. It had a little bit of reluctance to drop to the floor in the last 3rd. I'm going to drop the forks through the yokes another 10mm and see if that improves it. However i think the forks could do with a respring. I'm a very happy man. 8-)

The bike looks spot on. You must be chuffed with it.

Hats off to you Rocket! Awesome result and I've really enjoyed this thread. I had a RZ250R in my youth and a handful of 2 stroke trail bikes so have a soft spot for them. The RS wasn't very common over in NZ, think I maybe saw 2 in total personally and that was at race meets. I'd love to do something similar if I had the time.

Was going to try and do a track day on sunday as its a classic / 2 stroke day. But im having over heating problems tried bleeding the system a few times. Tried a few different things like new thermostat but its still over heating. I think a head gasket has gone.

Checked the coolant pipes. All were fine and flushed the system. Then checked the thermostat which was new. It was jammed open the pin was cockled not allowing it to shut. Then I took the heads off the pistons and barrels look fine no damage the gaskets look ok no obvious signs of failure.

So ordering some new head gaskets and get it all bolted back together

I have had a little time away from the rs. I put it at the back of the garage for a few weeks while i sorted other stuff out.

However i picked up a tank that i had ordered months ago last weekend. I got the bike out of the garage and tried the tank for size.
Then over the last few days i have changed the head gaskets and resealed the clutch cover that had decided to leak. It has had a couple of heat cycles and im going to re torque the heads back down after a couple more.

While im prepping the tank i think im going to change the clocks. When riding the bike I found them hard to keep in sight all the time.

In terms of looks I think I prefer the metal tank.

I have laquered the tank. Had major problems with my new paint gun it did not want to set up properly and i should have just not bothered spraying it. However i did and it was not the best job. So i spent some time with wet and dry and the g10. Its come out ok. Will probably re do it at some stage.

So i got it all back together today and took it for a quick run. I had a bit of clutch slip which was just adjustment that i sorted when I stopped. Apart from that it held its temp no signs of over heating so fingers crossed its all fixed.

Next is trying to sort out the handling

After the ride the other day i noticed one of the forks was weeping. So ive changed the fork seals and done the bushes . tried to set the sag and with the preload wound all the way off the springs are still to heavy so think i will have to get some different springs for the forks.
