Aprilia Rs250

I have been after either an Rs250 or Rgv250 for a while but with the prices so hi i have been put off making the purchase. Until I got told by a friend he Knew of a Rs250 but it has been stored at the bottom of a garden for 10 years. ;(. About 6 months later the bike had been moved from the garden in Woking to a garage in Sheffield. i went to see it and it was pretty ruff worse than I expected. I thought long and hard as he wanted top of what i was willing to pay for it and there was no haggling. It was a bit of a gamble as i had no idea what condition the engine was in there pretty easy to rebuild but can get expensive.I could not resit the temptation so bought it.
I picked it up today and took it down to a friends garage as i have no room at home and started stripping the bike down.

I have most of it stripped i have taken the engine out and took the barrel off the lower cylinder and It looks good very little play on the crank and the barrel piston and power valve look in good condition. Great news ill split it all down but looks like just a top end rebuild and some gaskets.

I've been looking forward to this thread! Got a soft spot for little Aprilias, the first bike I ever rode was a RS125. What are your plans for it?

Strip the engine and hopefully just a top end rebuild.
Chassis strip down bearings replaced. Powder coat anything that needs it. Shock and forks reworked.
Loads to do.
Colour wise It will be an original colour

Today i sorted through the parts i had stripped off. Stuff that needed was work put to one side and I made a pile for the powder coaters.

I took the carbs off the engine. Pulled the second barrel off and checked its condition which was good. I then took the clutch cover off and loads of lovely oil came out in great condition amazed that this engine has been stood for so long and the motor is in the condition its in. I would also say its had a top end rebuild not long before its been stored. (inlove)

That engine looks brand new inside.

To you plan to shot blast and re coat the outside of the engine ?

Ill clean it up but not risking shot blasting. I'm not even going to pull the casing apart (which was the original plan) the oil that came out was very clean i expected water in it. i have pulled motors apart that have been stood 3 months and they have looked in poorer condition. So i would just be wasting time and money on splitting the casings also there more chance of getting things in there that shouldn't.

I am just finalising my first purchase for it and its a BAD one but i don't think i would get the opportunity again so I'm having them.

I have to say Rocket, those pictures make it look like it's in pretty amazing condition. Nothing like the "10 years in a garden" look that I was expecting.
My "mint, never seen rain" one is virtually identical.
Do you have the lower fairings.?
