d600 big end

Post by da monkey »

Hi guys, i'mlooking for some help and guidance.
In the past few years i have put 20k on my d600 and it has developed a noisy rattle - stealership diagnosed big end and uneconomical to repair (from listening to the engine).
So I guess I have a couple of questions -anyone know how I can confirm the diagnosis as opposed to say a noisey cam chain?
The second Q is if the big ends gobe what are my options? Engine from scrappers? Anyone done an engine swop?
Thx
Simon

The cam chain will make a different noise. It's more of a rattle. Have a look on YouTube for failed cam chains.

Engine swaps can be done but you either need a lot of time and technical know how or deep pockets.

I've replaced big ends & main bearings on other vehicles in the past. Lot of work, but it's nice to do an engine refresh IMHO.
I've never worked on a D600 though, so can't really comment on them.
There is a "someone" on here who is both genius level engineer & (afair) also has some experience of the older Daytonas. Be interesting to hear his advice.

I would have thought a big end going would make more of a knocking noise than a rattle.

If you know the bike, know a decent mechanic and intend to keep the bike, then it's worth it.
