Sticky slot

I'm getting some resistance with the ignition when I put the key in and turn it. I suspect it's getting a bit gunked up with crap.

Is it a case of taking the ignition out and stripping it or is there a lazy method to fix it?

I normally just blow some PTFE (GT85) spray though mine

Yep WD40 in there and operate the key on and off a few times.

I would put a graphite spray in.

Anything with an oil base will attract even more dirt.

The same happened to my fuel tank key slot.. there was a hole on the bottom which you spray WD40 through until the gunk exits through the key slot. Try to find something like that on the ignition

For me duke has the best answer but the easy one is wd40.

The good thing about using WD40 especially on ignition, is it's a water displacer and keeps moisture out of electrical systems.

I used ACF-50 grease and it seems to work great. Will probably pick up some graphite for next time.

Fwiw I use ACF-50 spray, as it seems to me that it prevents corrosion of the internal springs/blades and it adheres to the components.

So disappointed in this thread after such a promising title.

The title is a bit misleading (wasntme)

Should have called it something more appropriate like "Squirters" (giggle)

This thread took such a turn so quickly haha!!

On the lock subject I tend to use WD40 - have never had issues in all honesty.

The graphite spray seems to have done the trick. Lets see how long it lasts.

All professional locksmiths use graphite as a lubricant for locks.

Graphite would be my first option, but if you’ve got a lock that’s exposed to water or corrosion, I’d use Wurth HHS 2000 adhesive lubricant, ridiculously good on door locks, padlocks and a score of other uses.
