Re: Journey to Biking

Wahey! I passed my Mod 1 this morning! I had another lesson on Sunday. I didn't post about it because I didn't want to tempt fate, but I left feeling a lot more confident on the 650. I had a different instructor this time - a lady who only passed her test herself in 2012, but she's been working like...

Re: Journey to Biking

Cheers mate! If I don't crack it next time in a fortnight, I'll re-evaluate, re-group, and have another go! I'm not giving up on this - it's too much fun! Also, I'm actually bored with the 125 now, which does make me laugh, I have to say. It seemed like all the bike I'd ever need for a couple of mon...

Re: Journey to Biking

After sitting on that matte black Street Twin, it will take a lot more than this to put me off! I WANTS!

Re: Journey to Biking

Great - thanks - I'll bear that in mind. It just seems ridiculous to me that when I was learning to fly, in a one hour lesson I did more full-on landings than I did u-turns in a whole day of training. And it was cheaper!

Re: Journey to Biking

RMT. I was very impressed with them - they got me on a 650 nice and quickly. It just seems impossible to get them to teach you purely Mod 1 stuff :( To be fair, me and the girl I'm learning with mentioned this when we booked the next lesson, so I'll see how that lesson goes before I get too annoyed.

Re: Journey to Biking

Thanks for all the advice - I appreciate it :) Well .... I hate to say it .... but I absolutely stuffed that Mod 1 up yesterday! I don't think I was quite ready. Neither was the girl I was doing it with, who I've been training with from the start. She binned it during the emergency stop after coming...

Re: Journey to Biking

Thanks chaps! I sat on KTM 390, and it's slightly too tall far me to be comfortable at this stage. I'm 5'7", and have short thighs, it turns out! I mean ... I look decidedly human, I promise, but ... you know. I love the MT07, but worry about the seat height. Actually to be honest, the bike tha...

Re: Journey to Biking

Finally had my next lesson yesterday (he said, using some tortured grammar...)! Another day on the SV650. Mixed urban / country riding in the morning, then some 70mph stuff on the dual carriageway going from Redditch to Birmingham, then a couple of hours on the test centre Mod 1 course. Plus points:...

Re: Journey to Biking

Thanks Frankie & Kiwirasher. Yeah - once I've got my test and a few miles under my belt, I'll definitely do the Enhanced Rider thing, then have a think about IAM... I've always meant to do the IAM in the car, but never got round to it. I think doing it on the bike would be a lot more useful.

Re: Journey to Biking

Had my second full day lesson on Friday, and rather pleasingly, we got transferred over to the 650cc bikes at lunchtime - Suzuki Gladiuses (Gladii...? :^ ) I absolutely loved it! I'm back to not being totally confident at slow speed stuff, and there were a couple of dicey moments where my foot slipp...

Re: Journey to Biking

Just thought I'd pop a quick update in.... That first DAS lesson was one of the best days of my sodding life! Absolutely made the right decision going to this school. Superb tuition, and I was Figure-8ing like a boss by the end of the day! Haven't been let on the 650 yet, but I'm more than happy to ...

Re: Journey to Biking

Thanks for the encouragement, chaps - I appreciate it. I'll keep on practicing! That's a very kind offer, Mr Kwaky - I fully intend to take you up on it when you're free of the IAM stuff (all the very best of luck with that, by the way!) - lunch will be on me (y) PS W@nker PPS Sorry, couldn't resist...

Journey to Biking

Hello all! I'm new! I've been lurking around for a few months, but I thought it was about time I bit the bullet and started a thread. I've only just started learning to ride, so I've got nothing of value to add, really, but I thought I might post an occasional update on how training is going until I...

Re: Introductions - Say "Hello" Here

Mine was a suzuki SV650s, decent light weight bike with enough grunt to get into trouble but not so much to be scared of the throttle. Thank you Stonesie. It looks like the school I'm probably going to use uses SV650s. It's on the list as a sensible first big bike! I have to confess I rather like t...
