Re: advising your younger self

Tbh I was told not to trust cagers, but learned the lesson the hard way after 1 month on two wheels. 1, Don’t listen to advice about bikes from people that don’t ride. 2, Buy decent gear and wear it, a denim jacket & DM’s are not good enough. 3, When Trackdays take off - go and book ...

There is only one acceptable reason not to have two bikes imo.

And that's you haven't got room for three (rock)

Re: Just one bike

I've used 3 of the demo bikes at KTM as well as had the DMC mechanics bike for a few days and all of them seemed to be in great nick. I know the mech at DMC uses his all year round.

I don't need a bike that's going to fall apart after a few weeks.

Re: Just one bike

... the same engine as my R it doesn't loose any omph being that it is bigger and bulkier. The GS was mentioned and again, the GS or the GS A are mega bikes, and the guys who bought these during my short time at BMW did not change, they just bought another one. However from a personal point of view ...

Re: Just one bike

Can't help thinking the BMW GS fits everything you need from a bike.

They are damn good bikes as seen by the number BMW sell. Must be worth a test ride.

Re: Just one bike

Tough decision, Kwacky :?

I'm finding it hard enough choosing a road bike and I don't have the problem of wanting a bike to commute on.

While ever I'm green laning it will always be 2 bikes though.

Re: Just one bike

I think that after having two bikes for so long, the thought of having just one is probably way worse than the reality of it, if that makes sense??

BUT.....you also commute on a bike, which definitely changes things a LOT.

Tough one.

Re: Just one bike

Fidget - I like your philosophy and I would subscribe to your news letter, but I don't have a garage to store them in.

I really do need to get rid of the kids so I can move to somewhere with a double garage. Or get Perkles to buy a house near me with a garage so I can store my bikes there.

Re: Just one bike

I did an online quote for a Superduke on a comparison website.

I won't be getting a superduke.

The new GS models aren't getting very good reviews from their owners. That said BMW do have a couple of bikes that tick a lot of boxes - like the S1000XR and the R1200RS

Just one bike

... twisties and look after me on the daily commute. Am I asking too much from just one bike? So what would people recommend? I'm in no rush to change bikes (if I change at all) so there's plenty of time to get test rides sorted. Although they may have to wait until the Versys is fixed. Turning up ...

Re: For fooks sake

... I'm guessing that's not a good thing, Duke?? He was a jobsworth and went over each bike finding issues with documents and reg plate on one of the bikes. He got to about €400 of fines, then stated we could go on our way |( He was showing off to a young lady gendarme we reckon. She did look nice ...

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??

I would consider one but as you say not cheap, I think really I have to come to terms with the fact that I am fat and slow so bikes like that probably suit me more haha To be honest I need to get the MT, considering I used to put in so many miles I havn't touched it in about 3 weeks which ...

Re: What did you do to your bike today ??

I like the new 2018 one they've done in white and blue.

Not cheap though and they're down on power compared to other bikes in that field.

If I do drop to one bike I'm going to take a look around at a few adventure style bikes. Triumph, KTM Ducati and BMW all have some decent offerings.
