I've been doing the same recently on the speed. Popped out yesterday evening for a couple of hours, 50/50 between fast A roads and single track lanes. Did manage to find a bit where the road drops away, quite quickly... Especially at a slightly naughty speed... Both wheels airborne ...

I can honestly say you don't get the same level of abuse when riding a mountain bike on the road. I think it's the lycra that makes everyone assume you're an asshole. Unfortunately, the reason for that thought is because of the extreme minority

I went out cycling yesterday....about 35 miles of reasonably steady road riding..... but the last 8-10 miles was not fun at all, and I'm paying for it this morning.
I think I'm going to end up spending the day in bed. Not very happy ATM.
